I am a Filipina, poised to be a sociologist of esotericism. I have been studying western astrology for fifteen years, tarot for two. I am queer and disabled, but the patriarchy and the bourgeoisie stumble harder trying to faze me. I was a presenter at the Queer Astrology Conference 2020, I write for Filipino Astrologer, and I am a mum to Esoterica, the only occult organization in UPD. It’s time for the occult to speak for itself. I chose “kaperosa” to reclaim her narrative. She cannot be reduced to a jump scare nor a victim. Worthy of more than your snickers and fright, she is deathly hungry for justice—a spirit that could have chosen rest but instead refuses to be silenced. She has been stripped of dignity, love, and family. She lives on the street and usually owns nothing but a tree, yet the powerful cower at the possibility of her. She is not something to be kept in the dark. She is a symbol of a woman’s stupefying strength and a reminder of the justice women deserve. She is not dead. She lives in many of us.
